A drive through The Vee (aka “The Gap”) is exceptional any time of the year, but when the rhododendrons are bloom the landscape blazes with pink and purple blooms. The scene is so exceptional, it’s been listed as one of the “1,000 Things to Do Before you Die.”
Even if you miss the flowers at their peak (usually sometime between mid-May and early-June), the route still ranks among Ireland’s best inland drives.
The pass gets its name from the shape cut out of the Knockmealdown mountainside… which was supposedly cut by St Patrick’s Cow who tore through the valley when raiders stole her calf.
