Tips for Submitting to IrelandTravelKit.com

We are creating a database of off-beat, off-the-beaten-path destinations and experiences in Ireland. That means we’re avoiding the places that make it to the pages of all the big guidebooks… sorry, Guinness and Blarney and the Cliffs, we love you, but you’re in the “cool kids” club, and, well, our crew is more likely to hang on Island of Misfit Toys.

Here are a few things to consider before you submit:

  • We’re not a guidebook, so we’re NOT looking for a comprehensive list of tourist sites; we are a resource of unique things that will help users find experiences to enhance their itinerary.
  • We geo-tag, so only places with specific, physical locations will be included, so have the GPS coordinates or a link to a Google Map location handy (one per submission).
  • We want a photo with each submission, and it must be an image you have the rights to use.
  • Write your own text — don’t copy/paste words from other sites.
  • Keep it brief; descriptions should be 50 to 200 words should be enough to tempt readers into wanting more — use outbound links to provide them with more information.
  • Don’t include details like hours of operation or contact info; instead, include a link to their website.
  • Get creative; while a site like Christ Church Cathedral Dublin wouldn’t make it onto IrelandTravelKit.com (it’s in all the guidebooks), the mummified cat and mouse they have on display inside would — we love those kinds of finds… even when they’re at a major tourist site.
  • Include links to sites associated with your submission which can include your favorite articles about the site; this is an excellent way to link readers to content on your own website.
  • Link to specific webpages not main pages; for example, discoverireland.com has loads of great info, but our readers expect to be delivered to their specific page for a site and not have to search for it when they get there.
  • Don’t advertise; we’ll include a link to your site in your credit, so don’t use your submission to self-promote.
  • We’re not a review site for restaurants or accommodations; if you’re submitting a place to eat or stay, make sure it has an interesting story that fits one of our themes.
