Errigal Mountain dominates the landscape in this area, and is the tallest peak in the county. It is a fairly hikable mountain, with a ‘one-man’s pass’ along the top. However, you will need proper gear – good shoes, a walking stick, etc. If you want advice or assistance, you could go by (or stay at!) the Errigal Hostel, just down the road from the car park you should start at for the climb.
Karl Harold and his family run the Errigal Hostel, and it has recently obtained ‘green’ status by the EU. He leads treks up the mountain fairly frequently, and is very helpful to those wanting to make the journey.
The surrounding countryside is sublime, even if you don’t climb. Errigal is at one end of the Seven Sisters, and nearby the Bloody Foreland.
Also check out some of Karl’s photos – he is very talented!
