The Dunbrody Abbey website describes this site as “one of the finest examples of a Cistercian Monastery in Ireland” and when you get there you’ll see why. It is truly incredible that buildings like these were built to last as long as they have – this one is standing for approximately 800 years.
Give yourself plenty of time to tour the Abbey. Besides the Monastery building, you can wander around in the garden maze, grab a bite to eat in the cozy tearooms, and even play a round of miniature golf. If you do decide to have some fun in to the maze, be warned that the hedges that create the maze are quite high. Those of you with little children will want to keep a close eye on them.
