The Cliffs of Moher by Sea: Doolin, Co Clare

Powerful, immense, and startling in their rugged beauty, the Cliffs of Moher are a must-see on any trip to Ireland. But instead of visiting the Cliffs of Moher from the TOP, why not see them from the SEA?

Take a tour of the Cliffs of Moher by boat! The launching spot is in Doolin. We made our way down Doolin’s tiny, winding roads to the wharf. Once on the wharf, there are several ferry companies. We booked through Garrihy’s Doolin2Aran Ferries. There is parking behind the Doolin2Aran Ferry office, on enormous flat boulders leading to the sea.

You can be first in line to board the boat, and grab a seat up top. This affords spectacular views of the Cliffs as you come upon them. However, don’t neglect the views from the back of the boat, on the lower level. You’re a bit more stable, have plenty of room to see and photograph, and feel closer to the action.

What you’ll see? Ocean detritus, washed up on rocks. The path they took in the Princess Bride to scale  “The Cliffs of Insanity.” Scenes that were featured in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Birds galore. Ocean spray rising from waves dashing upon rocks. Pure magic.
