The Birthplace of James Napper Tandy: Dublin City

by | Jun 1, 2012 | Dublin City, Landmarks & Buildings

While exploring the medieval district of Dublin you may find yourself wandering around the grounds of St. Audeon’s Church. Adjacent to this church once stood the birthplace of James Napper Tandy, a Dublin-born Irish revolutionary, who actively rebelled against the English forces. Tandy was an active member of both the Irish Volunteers and the Society of United Irishmen, two Irish Republican organizations, both of which were determined to end British monarchical rule over Ireland.

Tandy led an eventful life, spending time on the run, in prison and was even sentenced to die at one point. He eventually ended up in France, where he lived until his death in 1803.
