Inchagoill Island with its amazing beauty and serenity and early christian monastic settlement, with not one but two churches dating 5th and 12th century.
A distinct tombstone has an inscription indicating that it is the grave of Lugna, son of Limanin, and nephew of St. Patrick. The stone is also shaped in what appears to be a rudder. This inscription is believed to be the oldest Christian inscription outside the Catacombs in Rome!
Beautiful woods, coves and bays abound on this peaceful island, that can be availed of for picnics and swimming in the clear unspoiled waters of Lough Corrib.
