Honoring Olympians: Nenagh, Co Tipperary

by | Jul 26, 2012 | Landmarks & Buildings, Tipperary

The town of Nenagh celebrates her Olympic athletes with a trio of statues outside the newly refurbished courthouse. The statues of Matt McGrath (hammer throw), Bob Tisdall (400 meter hurdles), and Johnny Hayes (marathon) include plaques that tell a bit about them.

The ball of the hammer throw seems to disappear from time to time… not sure if by nature or vandals, so if it’s there, consider yourself lucky to have seen it. The statues are located very near the Tourist Office, Nenagh Castle, and the Heritage Centre.
