Built in 1830, Duckett’s Grove’s “Castellated Gothic Revival Style” puts it squarely in the storybook castle category. In recent years, the old walled garden has been restored, and some of the out buildings have been turned into a tea room as well as work areas and shops for local artists. 2012 saw the opening of one of the turrets which allows the public to take in the Carlow countryside.
The castle is reportedly haunted by a banshee as well as a few other paranormal entities.

Editor’s Note: The tea room and craft areas are not generally open and public tours are rarely held at the site. However, visitors are welcome to wander the garden, grounds, and castle (look for the open gate behind the old craft shop). – ct
