The Megalithic structures situated near the village of Lecarrow in South Co. Roscommon are relatively unknown. In the middle of the twentieth century it was thought by some to be just a jumble of stones? With improved understanding of these structures however there is now firm evidence that what exists here is indeed an early monument to the dead. In fact there seems to be a number of monuments present at the site.
In 2004 Consultant Archaeologist Theresa McDonald carried out a survey on behalf of St. John’s Parish Heritage Group and she found five early monuments.
During 2006 Lecarrow Development Group decided to make the monument more accessible to visitors. A programme of clearing the vegetation and making the site accessible began and in early 2007 signs was erected to direct visitors to the site.
